PEdAL ED has started making two performance cycling jerseys, the Okabe(their synthetic offering) and the Kaido(their wool blend). Since my synthetic jersey game is on point(that’s what the kids are saying, right?), I decided to give the Kaido a try.
It gets real hot here in Southern California, some even say that wool is too warm for our climate, but I disagree. If wool is done properly, it can be ridden in the height of summer with no issues(and if you get too hot…just unzip it!)
I decided to give the Kaido it’s first run on one of the hottest days of the year, with a estimated 50 miles and about 6,000 feet of elevation gain.
Did I get hot, yes! Would have I gotten hot with a synthetic jersey on, yes! Did I stay dry, no! Would have I stayed dry with a synthetic jersey on, no! Would I wear it again on one of the hottest days of the year, while climbing in the mountains, yes. You know why, because after these rides I usually end up at some fine establishment with food and drink. The Kaido will be dry before I get there and I’ll be looking damn fly, even for riding clothes. Then I’ll dance to the sounds of the Mariachi band and have my margaritas with lots of salt(recovery).
